What is aerial photography ?

As Wikipedia put it, Aerial photography is the taking of aerial pictures from an elevated position. Platforms for aerial photography include fixed-wing aircraft, helicopters, balloons, blimps and dirigibles, rockets, kites, poles and parachutes.

What are the benefits of using RC helicopters or small size balloons for professional aerial photography and videography ?

It’s much more cost effective than hiring a pilot with a full sized plane or helicopter. Aerial pictures are now cheap.

Full-size, manned aircraft is usually prohibited from low flyovers of populated locations. Small scale model aircraft offer increased photographic access to these previously restricted areas. This benefits real-estate advertising, where commercial and residential properties are the photographic subject. Advances in radio controlled helicopters has made it possible to conduct low-altitude aerial pictures and videos and get stunning views.

RC helicopters can fly at any altitudes from ground level to about 500ft or more whereas commercial aircraft are often limited by how low they can fly (traditionally 500ft to 1,000ft). Not only does flying closer to the ground cut down on any haze, but it also lets you capture your subject at unique angles. Aerial pictures are also sharper.

Due to advanced electronics, image stabilization software and newer camera technology, RC aerial photography often provide better quality than a pilot or passenger, taking a picture out the window of a plane.

From the sky, a pond or lake will reflect the color of the sky. So you will get a photo with a very nice blue, even if, from the ground, the pond looks green. Below is an example of aerial pictures:
In fact, RC helicopter based aerial photography is probably the most versatile form of aerial photography and aerial videography available, as it’s extremely accurate and has the ability to take aerial pictures and video from unique angles that full sized aircraft can’t match.
Furthermore, RC Helicopters or an helium filled balloons can stay at the same place allowing the camera to take several photos that can later be "stich" together using a computer software. The aerial pictures below is actualy 4 photos "stitch" together and is 10527 x 2385 pixels.
In the old days, if you wanted an aerial picture of your house, land, construction site, commercial building, resort, hotel or anything else, you had to hire a pilot and plane at the cost of $500 to $1,000 or more. That’s a thing of the past. With SkyCAM, you will get around 50 pictures for just over $450 or 15,000 Baht, a mere tenth of the normal cost !
